John J. Campagna is the managing partner of Restore Capital whose mission is to bring private capital strategies and investments to bear on restoring working lands, the environment and economies of our rural communities.

His 25-year career encompasses a broad range of client management and financial experience within High Tech, Investment Banking and Asset Management along with experience within the sustainable farming movement. His expertise in innovative investment strategies is based on his deep understanding of financial methods that provide market rate financial returns and enhanced environmental benefits.

Mr. Campagna attended Transylvania University in Lexington Kentucky receiving a degree in Computer Sciences with a secondary emphasis in History. During his college summers he worked with the Youth Conservation Corp in Great Falls National Park Virginia helping maintain the trails and natural areas of the park. Following graduation, Mr. Campagna began a career in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. Employers included Unisys (San Jose CA) and SBC (San Francisco CA) as well as smaller regional and start-up firms. He progressed swiftly from engineer to account executive to financial consultant on large-scale integration projects working with clients in the US and Europe.

During his time in California, Mr. Campagna helped manage a small organic farm in Sonoma County started by his family selling produce to restaurants and at farmer markets. He also took a one-year sabbatical to manage a non-profit retreat located on 40 acres of redwood forest in Marin County. The retreat catered to non-profit groups who used the facilities for meeting and planning purposes, and provided organic meals and rooms for up to 40 guests.

Mr. Campagna parlayed his financial experience in the high tech industry, including working for Arthur Young & Company in their Tax and Consulting practice, to a position within TransCapital, an investment-banking firm located in the Washington DC area. As a principal for the firm, he focused on bringing leasing investment solutions to banking and high net worth clients. While at TransCapital he originated client investments of over $1 billion in assets.

Mr. Campagna combined his financial expertise with his knowledge and commitment to sustainability by founding a financial advisory practice within Legg Mason providing clients with environmentally responsible investments and advice. While there he was a licensed registered representative (series 7 & 63) and registered investment advisor (series 65) with an AAMS accreditation from the College of Financial Planning. At the beginning of 2007, he moved the practice to Benchmark Asset Managers in order to provide an even greater breadth of service and access to investments for his clients, and in 2010 helped Benchmark launch Restore Capital.

Mr. Campagna has spoken at many conferences on Investing & Ecosystem Markets, had articles published on his activities and strategies, and remains active within his professional and local community. He is currently a member of EcoTrust’s panel on Community Fishery Assets, and the State of Maryland’s Ecosystem Markets Taskforce. His local community activities include being an active member of the endowment committee for the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, the development committee for Irvine Nature Center, and President Emeritus of Baltimore Green Works.
